Daily 5Daily 5 is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently while I'm working with students in Guided Reading Groups. Students make their own literacy choices and work independently on that task. The five components are Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Words, Work on Writing. As the students become proficient in these areas, the teacher will work with individual students and small guided reading groups. |
MathMath is taught whole group instruction along with math workshop. Students are taught different math strategies and skills in whole group. Differentiated instruction happens during math workshop.
Students are working in small groups and focusing closer with me on a variety of different skills and strategies. |
Writer's Workshop
Writer's Workshop consists of a short modeled mini-lesson, independent writing, conferencing, and sharing. During our whole group mini-lesson, I model good writing, show examples of good writing, and discuss a variety of skills within each lesson. Students then go back to their seats and independently write on a topic of their own choice. During independent writing time, I am conferencing with a few students to work on their writing.
SHARED WRITING- Students will also have a collection of shared writing pieces. Shared writing is a whole group writing activity. As a whole group, we brainstorm a topic, complete sentences, grammar and add details. Shared writing is helpful to students because it is modeled and guided throughout the lesson.
